In 2024, Geminor successfully handled 2,337,305 tonnes of waste across Europe, maintaining a consistent level compared to the previous year. The year has been marked by stability, securing waste delivery to off-takers, and expansion into new markets.

The share of residual waste for energy recovery (RDF/SRF) increased to 76.8% of the total in 2024, compared to 74% in 2023. This growth is largely attributed to a significant rise in SRF handling, which saw an increase of 78.4%. Additionally, plastic waste handling grew by 44.1%, while hazardous waste nearly doubled compared to the previous year.

Norway and the UK remain the largest contributors to Geminor’s total tonnage. However, these markets have been supplemented by Italy, Poland, and Denmark, which have emerged as significant contributors. At the same time, new markets such as France have shown substantial growth.

– Market changes in recent years have been significant, shifting from instability to greater predictability in 2024. We see that several markets now are stabilising and moving towards fixed, long-term deliveries and ETS frameworks, says Kjetil Vikingstad, Founder and Principal Owner of Geminor.

The company has also strengthened its position through several strategic initiatives. Geminor has focused on increasing its workforce, enhancing training and team integration across regions, and optimising HUB operations in key locations such as Hull, Aalborg, Landskrona, and Oxelösund. Additionally, two new HUBs were opened in Finland, in Loviisa and Kilke.

By derisking and leveraging capacity in alternative markets due to shifts in demand, Geminor has successfully maintained its tonnage levels and reinforced its position for future growth.

– Throughout 2024, we have ensured reliable waste deliveries despite supply shortages while successfully expanding into new markets. As the market stabilises, we focus on quality, meeting ETS requirements, monitoring fossil content in waste, and enhancing documentation for regulatory compliance, says Vikingstad.
