Stockholm Exergi and Geminor extend cooperation
WtE-producer Stockholm Exergi AB and Geminor have signed an agreement that extends a seven-year-long collaboration. Geminor will now deliver 60,000 tonnes of British RDF for energy recovery to the Swedish capital in the coming year.
The agreement between Stockholm Exergi and Geminor in Sweden, which has lasted since 2016, is now being extended by two more years. From January 2023, Geminor will deliver 60,000 tonnes of RDF annually. This RDF will help produce both heat, cooling and electricity for over 800,000 Stockholmers and 400 public and private companies.
The RDF going to Stockholm Exergi will mainly be sourced by the waste management company Powerday in the UK, which will be providing a 100mm shredded Refined RDF designed for recovery. The RDF will be shipped to Geminor’s processing facility in Oxelösund harbour, which is Geminor’s largest HUB in Sweden with an annual capacity of 90,000 tonnes.
After the opening of plastic bales and a quality check, the waste is transported in side-tipping lorries with a capacity of 150 m3 to Stockholm Exergi’s WtE plant in Högdalen, explains Country Manager for Geminor in Sweden, Per Mernelius.
– We are very pleased to extend our cooperation with Stockholm Exergi, and will now ensure both the correct quantities and the quality of the waste in the coming years. Our HUB in Oxelösund harbour works both as a processing and a storage facility, and will play an important part in facilitating the deliveries of RDF from the UK, says Mernelius.
Senior Account and Business Development Manager for Geminor in the UK, Chris Baggley, comments on the partnership.
– This is the third contract with Powerday, taking our partnership into almost a decade for this fuel supply. Our relationship with Powerday is extremely important to us, and we share a desire to make our services even more sustainable, says Chris Baggley.
