Danish AffaldPlus signs long term contract for European RDF
In the coming three years, Geminor will deliver 150,000 tonnes of secondary fuels to Danish energy producer AffaldPlus.
The recently signed agreement between AffaldPlus and Geminor will commence in January 2020. Geminor will annually deliver 50,000 tonnes of Refuse-derived Fuel (RDF) from countries such as the UK, Italy and Germany, and the logistics will mainly consist of bulk shipments – but also train and road transport.
AffaldPlus is a significant industry player owned by six municipalities on the island of Sjælland. In addition to receiving and handling waste from the municipalities, AffaldPlus produces electricity and district heating at its plant in Næstved. Geminor will deliver about 1/3 of the total annual secondary fuels burned in the incinerator at AffaldPlus.
Consistent delivery and quality of waste are both very important factors for AffaldPlus, says Kasper Thomsen, Geminor’s Country Manager in Denmark.
– This agreement is the result of a long process and dialogue to find the best, tailor-made solutions for AffaldPlus. We will deliver RDF from different countries, both in order to offer better quality, but also to secure regular deliveries with a more robust supply chain. These factors are getting more important to many off-takers, as the waste market in Europe is constantly changing. We are very pleased to be able to extend our agreement and cooperation with AffaldPlus for another three years, says Kasper Thomsen.
