Waste from Westco becomes sustainable fuel and furniture
One of Norway’s largest waste producers and recycling companies, Westco Miljø, has signed a new cooperation agreement with Geminor. The contract secures export of 33,000 tonnes of RDF to district heating plants in Sweden for 2019.
Westco Miljø produces RDF and material for recycling at five different waste handling stations in the county of Rogaland in Norway. The new agreement with Geminor ensures that 33,000 tonnes of residual waste will be processed and transported to district heating and energy producing facilities in Borås and Lidkoping in Sweden this year. In order to reduce transport emissions, the RDF is always transported using return loads.
As part of the agreement, Westco will also supply 3000 tonnes of recycled waste wood to Geminor’s hub in Egersund. The waste wood is milled before it is sent to Poland and used in furniture production at IKEA’s plant.
– Westco was one of our first customers, and the new agreement is signed on the basis of several years of good cooperation. This agreement ensures that RDF from Rogaland continues to be utilized as sustainable fuel for two of Sweden’s largest recovery plants in the coming year. The recycling of waste wood is also an important contribution to more sustainable furniture production, and here Westco is an important contributor and partner, says Leif Neverdahl, Account Manager at Geminor.
