Geminor to supply Sweden’s largest EfW facility with high-quality RDF
4. juli, 2018
European energy recovery specialist, Geminor, has announced a three-year agreement to supply 15,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) per annum to the Sysav energy-from-waste (EfW) plant in Malmӧ.
The contract, which commenced in June, will see Geminor manage the haulage, shipment and recovery of refined RDF from two locations the UK and Germany.Contributing to Sysav’s 1,400,000 MwH annual output, the resulting energy will beused to provide district heating and power for the local community.
A major agreement, the contract will leverage Geminor’s extensive network to maximise logistics efficiencies. Alongside utilising return journey sea freight to streamline costs, multimodal terminals in both Helsingborg and Gothenburg will enable feedstock to be sourced from across Europe and supplied on demand.
Per Mernelius, Country Manager at Geminor Sweden, commented: “Signing a new contract to supply RDF to one of Sweden’s largest EfW facility is an important milestone. As well as strengthening our bonds between German supply and Swedish offtake, this provides further possibilities for our international hubs.
“Sysav is one of the country’s most advanced facilities, playing an instrumental role in delivering sustainable heat and power for the residents of Malmӧ and Burlöv. We are proud to be part of this journey, providing high-quality RDF feedstock on demand.”
The agreement runs between 2018-2021 and will see a combined 45,000 tonnes of RDF recovered at the Sysav EfW facility (contributing to the site’s 630,000 tonne annual capacity). Feedstock will be sourced from RDF suppliers in the UK and Germany.
Since its formation in 2004, Geminor has continued to experience international growth. Now considered a leading player in the European secondary fuels market, the company handles more than 1.2 million tonnes of feedstock every year and holds contracts with more than 70 waste-to-energy facilities.
